The Eternal War is Here (excerpt)

"I turned away from the Aga and spiraled through the ground where no walls steered me to right angles.  I looked for shards of color, anything that might reflect the painful sunlight, anything that wasn’t earth-colored, anything smooth or sharp.  But there was nothing.  Wartime rubble and uprooted ground were sifted of valuables before the smoking mounds and craters cooled, and in time of deprivation almost anything but the ground was valuable, except to the combatants, for whom that was the only thing of value."
